SEASONAL ADVICE
SORE THROAT?
TRY THE LION. SIT UPRIGHT WITH PALMS FACE DOWN ON THIGHS, OPEN MOUTH WIDE, STRETCH TOUNGE TO CHIN AND LOOK UP AS IF YOU COULD LOOK AT THE CENTER OF YOUR EYEBROW. THIS BRINGS NOURISHING BLOOD TO THE BACK OF THE THROAT SOFTENING ANY PAIN, AND ALLOWING OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM TO ENGAGE.
We can invite our bodies to challenge our balance. Start by standing and try to achieve equal footing. Then, place one foot on the inside of your opposite thigh. Press foot into thigh, and thigh into foot finding that union of opposites. Place hands in prayer pose pressing both palms together. Breathe. Continue on opposite leg. Enjoy the feeling of beautiful balance.
A modification of the above is helpful if you are standing too long. I have used this while waiting on line with beautiful results. Place your foot on your calf muscle rather than thigh, and hold position with hands at sides. Continue on opposite side. When you place your foot down it feels as if you were able to rest with your feet elevated.
The changeable weather reminds us to be flexible and gentle with ourselves. Respecting our bodies' strengths and limitations is a beautiful way to evolve a healthier, happier being. Many times, the postures we like the least are the very ones we need the most. Approach each posture with a gentle heart and respectful mind. This will help to ensure a pain-free practice. Of course, participating in one of the workshops will add to your ability to enjoy a pain-free practice. Check our workshop schedule for some interesting offerings.
